Silhouette-1

SIL-1.

When viewing the tableware collection from their profile, they appear symmetrical. However, when viewed from above, the shape is organic and much more complex. The design is inspired by historical ceramics tableware objects. ‘Silhouette’ is a geometrically reduced version of these. The shapes and sizes vary from tall and narrow for cups and vases, to wide and low for bowls and plates

The inspiration for the color of the pieces comes from the research into historical ceramic fragments. The mixing of various powdered pigments with the clay and layering them inside the extrusion tube of the ceramic 3D printer allowed for the creation of a natural marbling pattern. By experimenting with different extrusion nozzles, it shows a large sized nozzle breaks the artificial feeling that is to some extent inherent to 3D printing. The thicker layers offers a more natural surface texture. This new aesthetic is created through the process.
