Jingge Qu (2001, CN) is an experimental ceramics designer currently living and working in Arnhem (NL).
As a Chinese, originally growing up in a historical city Xi’an, ceramic objects and culture have surround her for years. It is pretty common that in China ceramics are used everywhere in daily life, and simultaneously, ceramics are seen as a life and culture attitude. By imagining the past and future of the surroundings, and obtaining a fascination for the possibility of ceramics, Jingge started questioning and trying to find out the relationship between old ceramics fragments and nowadays life, which got her curious on the ceramics culture of Netherlands.
Starting from a ceramic fragment, Jingge traced the contours of the ceramic fragments and depicts the historical changes that lay beneath it, giving a glimpse of the moments that are lost in the development of the times. Resulting in unique pieces with a decorative function that establish a visual dialogue between ‘then and now’.
